“Weed Watchers” is a volunteering opportunity for nature lovers and those wanting to help protect the environment. The goal is to eliminate the possibility of non-native invasive weeds being transferred to and from Groton’s lakes and ponds by boats and trailers. In two hour shifts volunteers monitor the boat launches at Lost Lake/Knops Pond and Baddacook Pond. Volunteers hand out literature to boaters, explain what the program is all about as well as inspect the boat and trailer in order to remove all weeds that might be present. This MUST be done according to a new Massachusetts law before the boat can be launched, and again when the boat comes out of the water.
Non-native invasive weeds are an environmental problem that can be managed if we all participate in this very important cause. We need folks like you to generously offer to spend a couple of hours of your time to monitor the boat launches. Please, sign-up for as many open 2 hour slots as you are willing and able to do. Whatever time you can give is greatly appreciated!
