Greetings Lake Neighbors and Friends,
With Labor Day behind us and summer winding down, the Groton Lakes Association and the Great Ponds Advisory Committee wants to remind you of the very important vote taking place at Fall Town meeting Saturday October 3rd…

Article 16a on the warrant includes our $95,000 Community Preservation Act (CPA) grant for a full lake herbicide treatment of Lost Lake/Knops Pond. In order to receive the funds, the Town Meeting must vote to accept the Community Preservation Committee’s recommendations. We desperately need you there to vote for this article.

You likely have noticed the increasing amounts of weeds in the lake this summer. What you are seeing is the proliferation of Fanwort (aka Cabomba). While we have been successful in spot treatment of 2 other invasive weeds (Milfoil and Curly Pondweed), 2 years ago the Fanwort had grown beyond the point of spot treatment effectiveness. We are now at the point where a full lake Sonar treatment is required.

Our CPA application has received the support of the Community Preservation Committee, Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee. Now we need to clear one final hurdle, an affirmative vote at Town Meeting on October 3rd.

Fall Town Meeting will be held outdoors behind the Florence Roche School on the track/ field. There will be plenty of room for social distancing and a good communication system set up. We cannot predict how long it will take to reach Article 16, but the wait will be worth it in the long run. If we do not receive these funds, our lake will continue to be overtaken by Fanwort.

Please mark your calendar and plan to come support the lake treatment at town meeting.
Vote yes on article 16a!
When: Saturday October 3rd 10:00 AM
Where: Outdoors on the track/ field behind Florence Roche elementary school 342 Main Street.

Sincerely,
Your friends and neighbors of the Groton Lakes Association
