The only thing better than boating on beautiful Lost Lake and Knops Pond, is joining neighbors and friends for the annual Groton Lakes Association’s (GLA) Independence Day Boat Parade.

This year, a record-setting 35 boats entered the parade to participate in the first-time competition for awards: “Most Patriotic” and “Most Creative” decorations and a third category, “Judges Choice”. The enthusiastic boaters were lead around the route by Captain America and all boaters were cheered on by flag-waving revelers in backyards, on docks, at Sargisson Beach, on Baby Beach and at Groton Woods Camp. And, as happens every year, boaters were treated to the precision and daring of the Lost Lake Water Skiers right on cue.

There was keen competition with the Patriotic Avengers winning “Most Patriotic”, Dragon Patriots won for “Most Creative” and the “Judges Choice” was taken by the young Baro Gymnasts. The awards were GLA logo Tee shirts and caps as well as logo emblems.
